Best way to travel to 3 or 4 US cities in 2 weeks?

Me and a friend are wanting to travel around America (we are from the uk) and im just wondering what the best way to do it would be? Is there companies that offer tours or how easy would it be to fly to one city and just get a train/bus to other cities? We are thinking of starting in New York and going on to Chicago, Seattle or San Francisco & LA.

Thanks in advance!
Also just to add I cannot drive.

The cities you list are not close to each other. For example, Chicago to San Francisco would take at least 48 hours by train.

You are probably best off flying. All three airline alliances offer passes that you can buy in connection with your trans-Atlantic flights:

Remember you can buy an “open jaw” trans-Atlantic (for example) from London TO New York and back to London from the west coast..

The ground ground transport options are AmTrak and Greyhound. Both offer passes for international visitors.

AmTrak may be practical for longer trips IF the connections/routes are
good and you don’t mind the time it takes. AmTrak also offers sleeper cars on many trains – which could be fun.

Greyhound is not a comfortable way to travel long distances. However, Greyhound can often get you around for trips that are too long for a taxi.

Do try to visit somewhere that isn’t a large city so you see a bit of the countryside.

Remember to register for ESTA well in advance (it’s free), print the confirmation, and have it in your carry-on along with a copy of your return air ticket:

Hope you have a great trip!
