I am traveling to Karachi Pakistan with American contractors what should we expect – Safety, eating, culture,?
I will be in Karachi. Where should Americans go? I know that it is not Safe but are there areas to go to the bazars safely and what about the food, any sugestions? I am a world traveler and have lioved in South America and in Chad so I am familiar with other culture and with Muslim culture. I would love some help as I am the leader of the group..
karachi is a multi-cultural city quite unlike chad or any place in south america!
safety should not be a concern – trust me no one would be following you around with bomb packed in their rucksack!
Where should americans go!? what kind of question is that? the whole city is open to you – go where ever you please!
the bazars and malls are perfectly safe. with the eid season on you’ll see them jam-packed with customers. popular shopper’s areas are Bahadurabad/Tariq Road, Dolmen Mall (Tariq Road), Park Towers (Clifton), The Forum (Clifton), Gulf Mall, Zaibun Nissa Street, Zamzama Commercial Area.
Popular tourist spots are the many beaches in Karachi (Hawks Bay, Paradise Point, Sea View, Clifton Beach, etc) French Beach is an exclusive beach used by foreign embassy and consulate workers/families and citizens of karachi after a naval permit.
You can also visit the many islands of Karachi including Cape Monz or Manora. Boating facility is available at the Arabian Sea Country Club and Marina Club (DHA Area), Kemari Boating Area, etc.
A world-class golf club is also situated in DHA Phase-VII
Popular food junctions are the food streets of Hussainabad and Boating Basin.
The QuaideAzam’s Mausoleum is another popular tourist attraction.
The Mohatta Palace Museum might also interest you. Situated in Clifton it features many exhibits. The PAF Museum and Naval Museum are situated along ShahraeFaisal/ Karsaz Area.
You will find global fast food joints like KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Subway etc here as well
Premium hotels like Pearl Continental, Sheraton, Avari, Beach Luxury, Regent Plaza are dotted across the ShahraeFaisal/ Saddar area and offer motel facilities too.
Karachi is a huge metropolis with a variety of cultures and religions. You will find Churches and temples too. You will find buildings dating back to the British era and you will see towering skyscrapers that depict the vibrance of the new era.
